WALLINGFORD — It was a game of blown opportunities for Sheehan.
A 58-yard touchdown negated by a penalty, a fumble at the opposing 1-yard line and a slew of missed tackles throughout hurt the most, culminating in a 40-21 Titans loss at home in the 2022 season opener against New Fairfield at Riccitelli Field on Friday night.

BERLIN — When the Southington Blue Knights and the Berlin Redcoats switched sides at halftime, so did the momentum.
Berlin started the Thursday afternoon girls soccer matchup at Sage Park with control of the game, keeping Southington pinned in its half of the field for most of the first 40 minutes.

NORTH HAVEN — Aready losing 35-0, Platt ran the ball into the red zone only to see a wall of North Haven defenders and zeros on the clock. A simple tackle would have ended the half right there.
Instead, the ball carrier fumbled and North Haven's Nick Harkins ran the ball 80 yards the other direction for the defensive touchdown.

MERIDEN — Special teams were front and center in Maloney's 41-14 CCC Tier I football win over Hall on Friday night at Falcon Field.
After Hall won the opening coin toss and deferred, Maloney muffed the opening kickoff and Hall recovered at the opposing 30. The Spartans defense stood their ground and forced a quick turnover on downs.

NEW HAVEN — While the Sheehan passing attack struggled, it wasn't needed as freshman running back Brady Rossacci carried the offense along on Friday night at Bowen Field.
Rossacci rushed for 128 yards and four touchdowns on 31 carries as Sheehan blew out winless Hillhouse 40-6 in a SCC Tier 2 matchup to improve to 3-2 heading into the bye week.

WALLINGFORD — Big plays on offense and a lack of those from the opposing defense led Jonathan Law to a 51-14 SCC Tier 3 victory over Lyman Hall at Fitzgerald Field on Friday night.
The Trojans, who fell to 1-4, couldn’t get their offense working until Law had already jumped out to a significant lead.

WALLINGFORD — Early mistakes led to an early deficit that Sheehan couldn’t erase as Hamden beat the Titans 41-14 at Riccitelli Field in an SCC Tier 2 football matchup on Friday night.
The decision kept the Green Dragons unbeaten at 6-0 and high in the Class LL playoff mix at No. 4.
Sheehan fell to 3-3 and onto thin ice in the Class SS playoff chase.

WALLINGFORD — In their second straight matchup with an unbeaten Class LL opponent, the Sheehan Titans couldn’t make it competitive in a 52-0 SCC Tier 2 loss at Riccitelli Field to West Haven on Friday night.
Now 3-4, Sheehan’s Class SS playoff hopes are all but gone. One of the smallest schools in the SCC, the Titans were burdened by a schedule against much larger programs. A week ago, it was Hamden, also Class LL, also unbeaten.

SHELTON — On the road Friday night at Finn Stadium, Cheshire immediately stole momentum from host Shelton on the opening possession, jumping out to an early lead  that the Rams took into halftime.
Then, to start the second half, with the help of three Cheshire turnovers, including a pair of pick-six interceptions, Shelton stole momentum and the lead, and never looked back. The Gaels scored 28 straight points to close the game and post a crucial 34-14 SCC Tier 1 decision with Class L playoff implications.

MADISON — Sheehan football hasn’t played a close game since Week 3 at Amity. A 17-13 nailbiter win against Daniel Hand on Saturday night at the Surf Club definitely broke that trend.
With the victory, the Titans ended a three-game losing streak to get to 4-5 with one game remaining.

WALLINGFORD — For a while it looked like Lyman Hall might do it.
The Trojans led Thursday’s 50th annual Carini Bowl for most of the second and third quarters. Each time Sheehan gained momentum, Lyman Hall stole it back quickly.
There was real optimism on Lyman Hall’s sideline that Sheehan’s nine-year hold on the rivalry series would be snapped.
And then Brady Rossacci decided to put all of Sheehan High School on his back.

EAST HARTFORD — Leading up to the Class MM state championship football game, North Haven hadn’t allow more than 17 points in any game this season.
On Saturday, Killingly doubled that by scoring 34. It still wasn’t enough to beat the Nighthawks.

NORTHFORD — Even though Lyman Hall controlled play for much of the game, the East Haven Co-op put more pucks in the back of the net. That’s just how hockey goes.

NORTHFORD — Through the first 15 minutes, it looked like Sheehan-Lyman Hall II would be a goalie duel.
Then two things changed: Lyman Hall had a burst of energy and Sheehan unleashed Max Festa.

HAMDEN — Even though Cheshire was the favorite by seeding and had won 10 of its last 11 games before the playoffs, Trumbull made better use of its chances to pull off a first-round upset Tuesday in the CIAC Division II state hockey tournament.
The No. 3-seeded Rams saw their season end with a 4-1 defeat to the No. 14 Eagles at Lou Astorino Arena.

After the Panthers grinded out four runs on just two hits in the home half of the fifth inning to take a 5-3 lead, Class LL opponent Enfield stormed back with a bases-clearing triple to regain the lead and never let it go.
The final score read 6-5 Enfield as the Eagles beat Platt in a rainy Monday afternoon CCC interdivisional matchup in Meriden.

MERIDEN — As Platt softball grinded out it runs Wednesday, pitcher Emily Hart prevented any chance of Simsbury doing the same.
The Panthers drew eight walks, banged out seven hits and took advantage on each of the 17 wild pitches from Simsbury pitching while Hart struck out 12 and allowed only seven baserunners.
It added up to a 10-2 CCC crossover victory for Platt in a cold and windy Wednesday afternoon in Meriden.

WALLINGFORD — After the Trojans got off to a fast start, going up 6-0 after four innings, they seemed to drift off.
Mistakes in the field helped Shelton cut their lead in half.
But Lyman Hall stopped the bleeding, breaking the game open in the sixth and getting an easy six-out save by Jack Pesta.
The Trojans beat Shelton by a score of 11-3 in a Friday afternoon SCC baseball matchup at Pat Wall Field, improving to a 7-2 record. The win gets them back on track after losses in two of their last three.

MERIDEN — In the bottom of the fifth, with Maloney leading 9-2, Platt was simply trying to work out of a two-on, one-out jam and maybe make a miracle comeback.
Next thing anyone knew, the game was over via mercy rule.
Raf Rodriguez hammered a pitch the other way that snuck over the fence for his second home run of the night, this time a three-run shot of the walk-off variety.
Maloney beat crosstown rival Platt 12-2 in 5 innings in a Friday night CCC South matchup at Ceppa Field.

Maloney improved to 10-3 with Friday’s win, their fourth straight. Platt fell to 8-6.
